Stephen Brumbaugh

Hello! I'm an economist at the U.S. Department of Transportation's Office of the General Counsel and a recent Ph.D. graduate from UCLA's urban planning department.

My research and professional interests involve a mixture of transportation, economics, and law. My dissertation research examined trajectories and patterns of vehicle ownership in American households over their life course. I am now working on an academic project related to transportation expenditures and vehicle financing in low-income and other disadvantaged households.

Before coming to the transportation field, I grew up in rural Ohio, received a degree in East Asian studies from Harvard, and worked in systems administration and software development.
